Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
obeyed means attentive hearkening, compliance / submission.
salvation means deliverance from sin and its spiritual consequences and admission to Eternal Life with blessedness.
fear means reverence , deep sense of accountability, used intensively trembling fear.
trembling means quaking with fear.
so My opinion is this has something to do with our pursuit of sanctification / holiness and keeping ourselves pure and undefiled. and not receiving the Grace of God in vain. without Holiness none shall see the Lord.
2 Corinthians 6:1 We then, as workers together with Him, beseech you also that ye receive not the Grace of God in vain.
Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord
Hebrews 12:15 looking diligently lest any man fail of the Grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
conformed means Fashion alike, conform to same pattern, give same form with
Transformed means Change one's form, transformed in mind and heart
Renewing means renovation which makes a person different than in the past, renew qualitatively
Acceptable means well pleasing , strive to make our lives acceptable & well pleasing
Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Reign means to have dominion or dwell, prevail or be predominant
obey means to obey one's passions, thus becoming enslaved by them
