Matthew 6:19-21 message

Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.

Choose wisely what you treasure, what you consider valuable or precious .Dont place your happiness in the temporary treasures on earth
things materials money technology etc. etc. such things can be stolen
they are only useful for temporary enjoyment. if you place you happiness in worldly treasure you will always be empty searching for the next best thing. earthly treasure we should not count to be most valuable or most servicable to us. we must not covet these things grasping at more and more of them.
the things on earth that we sometime look to as treasure is liable to loss and decay. everything worldly withers away. riches clothing shoes cars etc.. etc.. thieves break through to steal they will be aiming at the house where treasure is laid up.

MATTHEW 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
MATTHEW 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Here we are given counsel to lay up treasures that cannot wither fade or be stolen away.Treasures of Eternal purpose and worth making Eternal investments. Treasures in Heaven are an inheritance incorruptible.
by actively setting our focus and efforts on doing things that store up treasures in Heaven we will focus less on acquiring and hoarding earthly treasures.
our hearts the core of who we are actually bonds with whatever we treasure
a treasure is something we consider precious or valuable.
the heart will always follow whatever is most valued and treasured.
Treasures on earth are not worthy to be compared to treasures in Heaven.
when the Greatest treasure and value of our heart is Christ His word and our relationship with Him then our pursuit of His Kingdom and Righteousness becomes the determining factor in our decisions our behaviour and our lifestyle.

whatever has our focus has us. what goes into our mind comes out in our actions.

this may sound funny to some of you, but while I was studying these scriptures I took a break and just sat there for a few minutes thinking about things we call or consider worldly treasures and thinking about Heavenly treasures.  and I begin to think about a dog and how there are many toys for dogs and how some dogs have big yards some have small yards to play in and what struck me was no matter how big the yard or how many toys a dog has, the dogs greatest joy and treasure is its time spent with its master.

in todays world we have so many distractions all the technology ipads iphones tablets internet and the list goes on. and to many times we tend to place our joy and happiness in treasuring temporary things.

i want to challenge everyone who reads this to examine your heart and life, and reflect back to that day when you got saved the joy that filled your heart and how great a treasure Christ was to you. how much you treasured talking to Him reading His word and praising and worshiping Him and fellowshipping with His childeren. and answer yourself honeslty is the Joy still there like it once was. and if not what changed.

the Lord is the Joy of our strength. and when we begin to seek laying up in store for ourselves treasures on earth we tend to place our focus on temporary thing and slowly we begin to place our joy in things and when we do that we become spiritualy weak and dry and easily become weary.

James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Don't try to have 1 foot in God's kingdom and 1 foot in the world. You will hurt yourself!
Half measures wont do. half obedience is disobedience.

Revelations 3:15-20) 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked. 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Revelations 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Romans 12:1-2) 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Matthew 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 7:13-14) 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
